BMW confirms that it’s spending the cash to boost production at the Spartanburg, S.C., facility and consolidating production of its sport-utility vehicles there. By 2012, the German automaker expects that it will be building 240,000 vehicles a year in the plant, including the X5, the new X6, and the next generation of the compact X3.
