Buyers of top-end luxury cars and big-engined SUVs in France will pay an extra €2600 "green tax" from January 1, 2008, as part of France's effort to reduce global-warming emissions. Buyers of fuel-efficient cars emitting less than 130g of CO2/km, however, will get "cash back" bonuses under new legislation approved by president Nicolas Sarkozy.
