General Motors will close its only assembly plant in Portugal in December with the loss of 1,200 jobs and transfer the production of its Combo vans to Spain in order to cut costs, the automaker's Europe vice president said. The factory is the US automaker's smallest assembly plant in Europe but Portugal's second-largest. Its closure will mean the loss of 1,200 jobs.
