Toyota is introducing a hybrid version of the Lexus RX330 SUV that will have the performance of a V-8 engine and the economy of a compact sedan. The RX330 is built on the Toyota Camry platform. Toyota hopes to sell 300,000 hybrid vehicles per year globally by 2005, so it likely will offer the hybrid technology on other Camry-based models. Fuel economy should get close to that of the Echo which averages 35 MPG.
